There has been universal belief that men are the only people who watch pornography. People feel that most women are “dainty” and see porn as dirty or degrading. While some x-rated things are degrading, not all pornography degrades women. I’m not a prude or anything, but I rarely watch it. It isn’t because I find it vile or disgusting. I just have my preferences. However, I have watched it before and did not find anything wrong with certain types.

Pornography is an art. Nudity and sexuality is beautiful when done in the correct way. While I’m a tomboy, I am also somewhat fragile. I don’t like harsh music (unless it’s 2pac, of course) and movies. I sometimes curse like a sailor when I get upset or need to make a vital point, but, for the most part, I’m a girly tomboy. Therefore, watching “hardcore” pornography is not my speed, but I’m not downing all pornography.
As a sex-positive feminist, I appreciate nudity and sexuality in all forms as long as the woman is not dehumanized. Pornography, to me, showcases and celebrates a variety of beautiful women who appreciate their sexuality. As I wrote in
"I'd Tap That...", sex is not meant to be dirty. Rather, it has only transformed when it became more accepted in the media.
Today is “Lady Porn Day,” a day dedicated to celebrate porn and masturbation. Today encourages everyone to talk about their porn experiences, share stories and to ultimately share their porn recommendations. I do not have much experience with porn or masturbation, but I am open-minded in what others have to say.
On SexLoveLiberation.com, there is a post called “
Jilling Off,” which tells a story of a female discovering masturbation. While I don’t masturbate (I’m too afraid to do so), it is an interesting read because she was taught to shy away from masturbation because it wasn’t for women. In my childhood, my male cousins were encouraged to have sex and masturbate at an early age, but I was never given that talk. I was simply told not to have sex until marriage. Masturbation never was brought up to me. Maybe it was because I was the only female in my family besides my aunt, mom, and grandmother. I’m not sure because I was semi-sheltered throughout my childhood.

Anyway, I don’t have much to share on Lady Porn Day, but I celebrate it because I believe in sexuality, femininity and love. To clarify, sexuality is not the same as being a whore. Sexuality is “a complex aspect of our personality and 'self',” according to
Health & WellBeing. H&WB describes sexuality as “defined by sexual thoughts, desires and longings, erotic fantasies, turn-ons and experiences. In many ways sexuality is the force that empowers us to express and display strong, emotional feelings for another person and is a natural stimulus for the procreation of our species.” Like I wrote yesterday, “Sexuality should not be feared. Embrace it, as it is a treasured possession.”
